Note: Smoltz sets 50-1 Odds he Returns to Pitching

March 19, 2010

John Smoltz will join TBS as a baseball analyst, but, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, he has an out in his contract should he want to return to pitching for an MLB team.

Smoltz recently told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he’d set 50–1 odds that he’s pitch a major league game again some day.

In early February, in the New York Times, David Waldstein said the Mets were no longer expected to sign Smoltz, once they have signed Japanese LHP Hisanori Takahashi to a minor league deal.

Smoltz had been seeking a one-year, $3 million deal.

In 2009, the soon-to-be 43 year old Smoltz was 2-5 with an 8.32 ERA in 40 innings across eight starts for the Red Sox, but went 1-3 with a 4.26 ERA with 40 strikeouts in seven starts across 38 innings for the Cardinals.
